A huge well done to three of our year 11 pupils - Max, Martha and Sophia - who took part in a 3-day NHS insight experience over the October half term.
The group of 13 students from local high schools met staff from a range of departments including Engineering, Medical Photography, Maxillofacial, Children’s Ward, Pharmacy,
Radiography, Physiotherapy Infection Prevention Catering and Ward 22.
On day 1, staff at Lancaster and Morecambe College engaged the students with activities in their amazing Training Ward. Using the latest technology, they were able to take observations on each other and dummy patients, learning a lot along the way! They also took part in a healthcare careers workshop and toured the college site. On day 2, they visited the Centre of Excellence in Paramedic Practice at University of Cumbria and were given an amazing insight into the work of a paramedic.
Facilitated by Stewart Ralph Principal Lecturer, the students got to hear about the life of a paramedic, the training and qualifications required and were able to learn and practice bystander CPR techniques.
The student comments highlight what a fantastic opportunity this was:
"Brilliant, if given the chance I would do it every day!"
"Fun way to learn more about jobs that never really cross your mind"
"Thank you I had a really good time and I enjoyed meeting new people"
"Open minded, helpful and is truly a best experience!"
"These days helped give me a better idea of different careers in the NHS and what it takes"
