The academy trust is a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity. The charitable company’s memorandum and articles of association are the primary governing documents of the academy trust.

The governors act as trustees for the charitable activities of Garstang Community Academy Trust and are also the directors of the charitable company for the purposes of company law.

The trustees are organised into a number of committees who form policy to be agreed at main governing body meetings. The bodies comprise Achievement, Premises, Student Welfare, Staffing and Finance.

The trustees are responsible for setting general policy, including the vision, aims and ethos of the academy and the monitoring of academic standards, adopting an annual plan and budget, monitoring the academy by the use of budgets and making major decisions about the direction of the academy, capital expenditure and staff appointments.
