Our students enjoyed an exciting and educational drop‑in session this week when we welcomed the Animal Care tutor from Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC) into school. The visit formed part of our ongoing commitment to providing students with meaningful encounters with further education providers and real‑world learning opportunities.
The Animal Care team brought a fascinating selection of creatures, including a snake, guinea pigs, a gecko and a stick insect. Throughout the drop‑in students were able to handle the animals under expert supervision, ask questions, and learn about the skills and knowledge involved in caring for different species. The tutor also shared information about the Animal Care courses available at LMC, outlining the pathways, qualifications and career opportunities linked to the subject.
For many students, this was a memorable chance to explore an area of study they may not have previously considered. Several students even challenged themselves to overcome their fears by getting up close to animals they had never handled before - a moment of real personal growth and confidence building.
We are extremely grateful to LMC for taking the time to visit and for providing such an engaging, hands‑on experience. Opportunities like this help our students broaden their horizons, discover new interests and gain a clearer understanding of the options available to them as they move through their education.
