Today, our Year 7 students took a giant leap into the world of work and financial planning, trading their usual timetable for an exciting, fast-paced Learn to Earn day delivered by Young Enterprise.

The interactive event was designed to bridge the gap between education and life after school, helping our youngest students connect what they study in the classroom today with their earning potential and lifestyle choices tomorrow.

Discovering the Power of Choice

Throughout the day, students were challenged to think about their personal goals, interests, and strengths. They explored a variety of career pathways, learned about the reality of taxes and budgeting, and discovered how different levels of education can impact future career options.

The highlight for many was a hands-on budgeting challenge where students had to manage a simulated monthly salary balancing the cost of "must-haves" like rent and groceries against "nice-to-haves" like holidays and tech upgrades.

What Our School Community Said:

From the Careers Office: "Starting career conversations early in Year 7 is incredibly powerful. The 'Learn to Earn' workshop provides a vital foundation, allowing students to explore possibilities without pressure. It sparks curiosity about different industries and helps them see that the choices they make in school right now are the building blocks for their future success."  Mrs Askew, Careers Adviser

From the Staffroom: "It was fantastic to see the students so highly engaged with their future goals today” Mr. Grindley Head of Year 7

From the Classroom: "The budgeting game was the best bit, but I didn't realise how expensive everything actually is! It made me think a lot more about what job I want to do when I'm older so I can afford things." Year 7 Student

Skills for Life

Today our year 7s left with a clearer understanding of financial literacy, a boost in their teamwork and decision-making skills, and most importantly an inspired outlook on their academic journeys ahead.

A huge thank you to the team at Young Enterprise for delivering such an impactful and memorable day for our students!
