This week, a group of Year 10s took a big step toward their future with an exciting visit to Blackpool Sixth for their Taster Day. It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to step out of the classroom and get a real feel for what life looks like after their GCSEs.

The day was packed with variety. Our students had the chance to dive into the subjects they’re most passionate about, whether that was getting hands-on in the engineering workshops, putting their skills to the test in Sports Science, exploring the world of Politics, learning the ropes in Health & Social Care, or seeing how core subjects like English, Maths, and Science are taught at college level. It wasn’t just about watching from the sidelines; our students were right in the thick of it, getting involved in practical tasks and seeing exactly how their favourite subjects work in a college setting.

Beyond the lessons, it was fantastic to see our students connecting with others. They did a great job of breaking the ice, meeting new friends from other local schools, and navigating the campus with confidence. Seeing them gain that bit of extra independence was a real highlight of the day.

It’s safe to say that everyone left with a much clearer picture of where they want to head next. Getting that first hand experience is exactly what’s needed to turn those "maybe" ideas into real, exciting plans.

Thinking about your own next steps?

If you’re a student (or a parent) wanting to see what’s on offer, Blackpool Sixth has two upcoming Open Evenings that are well worth the trip. It’s the best way to get a feel for the place, meet the tutors, and ask all those questions about your next big move.
