This academic year has seen our students benefit from not one, but two fantastic opportunities to engage with the world-renowned University of Oxford, truly broadening their horizons and igniting their aspirations for higher education.
Earlier this year, a group of Year 10 students embarked on an immersive, two-day university experience at The Queen's College, University of Oxford. This incredible trip allowed our students to sample university life first-hand, experiencing the unique academic environment and vibrant culture of one of Oxford's historic colleges. It was a chance for them to envision themselves as future undergraduates, exploring a prestigious institution from the inside.
Building on this momentum, just this week, our Year 9 students had an equally inspiring session with a schools liaison representative from the prestigious University of Oxford. This comprehensive visit provided a detailed insight into the world of higher education, tackling key questions and offering invaluable guidance. The session covered essential topics such as:
Why do people go to University? This sparked discussions about personal growth, career opportunities, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Course Types and Subjects Available: Students were introduced to the vast array of academic disciplines, from traditional subjects to cutting-edge new fields, helping them envision potential areas of study.
How to Choose a University: Practical advice was shared on considering factors like course content, teaching styles, location, and campus environment.
How do you Learn at University? The representative shed light on the differences between school and university learning, highlighting independent study, lectures, and
seminars.
A Day in the Life of a Student at Oxford: This captivating segment gave students a
real-world glimpse into student life at one of the world's leading universities, making
the experience feel tangible and exciting.
Why Choose Oxford University? The session also highlighted the unique aspects and opportunities available at Oxford, from its tutorial system to its vibrant student community.
"The session was really valuable in supporting our students to aim high with their aspirations" commented Paula Askew (Careers Adviser). "It's so important for our students to understand the possibilities that lie ahead and to feel empowered to pursue their academic goals."
The visit left our Year 9s feeling motivated and with a clearer understanding of the benefits and realities of university life. We extend our sincere thanks to the Oxford University liaison representative for providing such a valuable and inspiring experience for our students. This session marks another step in our commitment to fostering ambition and preparing our students for successful futures.
