Year 10 students, and our Head Girl & Head Boy, Jasmine Jolly and Michael Fisher represented GCA in the Lancashire School Championships. The 2017 Track & Field Championships were held at Stanley Park Arena, Blackpool. The focus of the championships is to select athletics from Lancashire Schools to compete in The English School Championshipswhich are held in Birmingham on 8th -9th July.
The first track event of the day was at 10 am - the intermediate girl 300m hurdles. Jasmine competed in this event and won in a time of 43:70sec and smashed the current championship record of 45sec set in 2003 by 1.30sec. This excellent performance means that she has qualified for the English School Championships. English School entry standard for intermediate girls 300m hurdle this year is 46.60sec. Well done Jasmine for achieving the standard and representing GCA for 3 successive years at this competition.
Michael Fisher competed in the intermediate boy category in the 100m event and sprinted to victory in a time of 11:60, just 0.4 sec short of English Schools entry standard. Congratulations to Michael for becoming Lancashire Schools 100m champion!!!!
GCA staff and students wish Jasmine all the best for the Championships in July.
