On Tuesday 24th May 2016, Year 8 and 9 girls competed at the Wyre and Fylde Combined Athletics at Stanley Park, Blackpool. The effort and intensity levels from all the girls were tremendous. The overall day was a huge success with the Year 8 team finishing in 6th place and the Year 9 team in 2nd place!
Year 9
Jasmine Jolly started the competition taking part in the hurdles with an outstanding performance of 11 seconds, finishing in overall first place for sprinting. Another impressive performance from Olivia Sudell during the 800m, finishing the race after only 2 minutes 48 seconds. Later on in the day, Izzy Keen performed an incredible shot-put reaching a massive distance of 7.50m. The girls pushed on throughout the day keeping top scores all around. A strong performance from Sophie Bowen-Howard reaching 3.50 meters in long jump, followed closely behind by Ellie Aspinall scoring 3.48 meters. During the 100m race, Amelia Hull finished with a time of 16.8 seconds, and Charlotte Wharton’s time of 16.1 seconds. The girls achieved impressive scores throughout the day representing the school with pride.
Year8
The good work continued during the year 8 shot-put event as Becky Hawtin threw a massive distance of 6.80m, finishing in third place for the throwing events. Impressive distances were also thrown during shot-put by Molly Kerr (6m) and Imogen Collinson (5.60m). Following on from the year 8 success, Charlotte Curwen completed the 100m in 14.7 seconds, directly after Charlotte Barnes with a time of 14.56 seconds. Claire Heath also presented a strong performance during the 100m finishing the race in only 15.63 seconds. An incredible 800m race completed by Jess Critchley (3.10 minutes) and Mia Swarbrick (3.08 minutes) represented GCAs strong position! Charlotte Jackson reached a distance of 3.49m in long jump, closely followed by Lucy Macpherson achieving a distance of 3.33 meters.
The girls’ performances were fantastic all day and were a pleasure to have with us whilst representing the school.
