The new term is officially underway, and Garstang Community Academy’s Year 10 and 11 students are already loving every minute of their weekly Compass Curriculum provision!

Stepping beyond the traditional school classroom, students are diving straight into their professional college environments across the region. Through this innovative vocational pathway, students spend each week studying practical, career-focused courses at partner institutions including Myerscough College, Blackpool Sixth, and Blackpool and the Fylde College, exploring subjects as varied as Construction, Engineering, Hair & Beauty, Motorsport, Agriculture, Psychology, and Animal Care.

For students based weekly at Myerscough College, the start of the new term brought an exciting mix of indoor theory and outdoor practice. After reviewing the foundational rules of farm health and safety in the classroom, their teacher led the group directly onto the Myerscough farm grounds. Walking the working farm allowed pupils to witness first hand how vital safety protocols are in practice, protecting workers, the public, and livestock alike.

With enthusiasm high across both year groups as the new term gathers pace, the weekly Compass Curriculum continues to give Garstang students a brilliant head start, building essential professional skills, independence, and real-world confidence.
