Last week, Year 11 students from across Fylde Coast Academy Trust came together to celebrate the completion of their Compass Curriculum programmes. The graduation event marked the end of two years of dedicated study in vocational subjects delivered in partnership with Myerscough College and Blackpool and The Fylde College.
The Compass Curriculum offers an alternative to traditional GCSE routes, giving students the chance to explore career pathways in areas such as Agriculture, Animal Care, Esports, Engineering, Construction, and more. Every Friday, pupils have travelled to specialist college campuses to gain Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, working with industry-standard equipment and expert tutors.
This year’s cohort has shown exceptional commitment, resilience, and enthusiasm. Their achievements have not only been recognised locally but also nationally, many of our students were featured on BBC Breakfast News, showcasing the impact and innovation of the Compass Curriculum provision.
Among the standout moments were our Animal Care students, who earlier in the course were filmed handling one of Myerscough College’s snakes during a practical session. Seeing them last week, proudly holding their certificates after completing the full programme, highlighted just how far they have come.
A Programme That Builds More Than Qualifications
Over the past two years, students have:
- Developed practical, industry-relevant skills
- Gained confidence working in professional environments
- Built strong relationships with college tutors and peers
- Demonstrated maturity, teamwork, and independence
- Achieved recognised vocational qualifications that support future study or employment
Staff across FCAT and our partner colleges have expressed immense pride in the progress students have made. Their growth, both personally and academically, has been remarkable.
Looking Ahead
Many of our graduating students have already secured places on further education courses, apprenticeships, or specialist college pathways. Others are exploring new opportunities with the strong foundation the Compass Curriculum has given them.
Whatever their next steps, they leave the programme equipped with valuable skills, real-world experience, and the confidence to take on new challenges.
A Huge Well Done
Congratulations to all our Year 11 Compass Curriculum graduates. Your hard work, dedication, and positive attitude have been inspiring. We are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved and excited to see where your journeys take you next.
Your success is a testament to what can be accomplished when ambition meets opportunity.
