Year 9 and Year 10 students took part in an exciting AI Innovation Day in school, designed to strengthen the key skills needed for GCSE Computer Science and to introduce students to the wide range of careers available within the digital and technology sectors.

Exploring Real-World Problems

The day began with pupils investigating the UN Global Goals and identifying real-world issues they felt passionate about. Working in teams, they began developing early concepts for an AI-powered product or app designed to make a positive impact. This first session encouraged students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and consider how technology can be used for social good.

Rapid Prototyping with AI Tools

In the second session, students used AI prototyping tools to bring their ideas to life. They created early versions of their concepts, refining their designs and learning how digital tools can support rapid development. The level of focus, creativity, and problem-solving on display was impressive.

Pitching to a Judging Panel

The final session challenged students to polish their ideas and present them to a judging panel. Each group delivered a clear and confident pitch, explaining their concept, design choices, and the real-world problem their solution aimed to address. It was wonderful to see the effort and care students put into their presentations, with many demonstrating real maturity, teamwork, and innovation.

A Valuable Learning Experience

The day was a great success and provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop skills that will support them in the classroom and beyond. Activities like these help build confidence, communication, creativity, and resilience - all essential for success in Computer Science and the wider curriculum.

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all students who took part. Their ideas were thoughtful, imaginative, and showed a strong understanding of how technology can be used to solve real-world challenges.

This super-curricular experience formed part of the Lancashire MEGA Hubs programme, delivered by IN4 Group in partnership with Lancashire County Council. Through this ground-breaking initiative, every secondary state school in the county will have access to cutting-edge opportunities in artificial intelligence, cyber, technology, and soft skills. The programme is designed to equip young people with the skills, experiences, and inspiration to thrive in the future world of work.
