Our Year 8 girls took part in the inspiring CyberFirst MEGA – Greentech Games, a female‑only event designed to highlight how digital, cyber and AI skills can be used to tackle real‑world environmental challenges. The day created a space where girls could explore technology with confidence, collaborate freely and see themselves as future leaders in STEM.

The programme offered a rich mix of hands‑on activities, from designing eco‑tech solutions to solving cyber puzzles linked to sustainability. Every challenge encouraged teamwork, creativity and problem‑solving, keeping students energised and engaged from start to finish.

The impact was clear in the students’ reactions. One participant said, “I had an amazing time.” Another shared, “There was a wide range of activities — it kept us engaged all day.”

Perhaps the most powerful moment came from a student who reflected on how the event shaped her future ambitions: “I was inspired by today and it’s definitely reinforced my ambition to be an engineer.”

Paula Askew, the school’s Careers Adviser, highlighted the value of the day, saying, “Events like this open doors for our students. It was wonderful to see the girls discovering new skills and realising that careers in digital and engineering are absolutely within their reach.”

Events like the CyberFirst MEGA Day play a vital role in showing young women that they belong in digital and engineering fields. For our Year 8 girls, the Greentech Games didn’t just teach new skills — it sparked confidence, curiosity and a sense of possibility about the role they can play in building a more sustainable world.
