Students had an excellent opportunity this week to learn more about post‑16 pathways as we welcomed Peter Wright from Blackpool Sixth Form College. Peter delivered an engaging and informative presentation to a group of students on the college’s Excellence Programme, a specialist pathway designed for high‑achieving and highly motivated learners.

The Excellence Programme offers a structured framework to help students reach their full academic potential. Peter explained how the programme supports those aiming for competitive university courses, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, Oxbridge, and other high‑demand routes. Students on the programme benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities, such as academic masterclasses, specialist workshops, university preparation sessions, and guidance tailored to their individual ambitions.

A key message from the session was the programme’s focus on developing the skills and mindset needed for success beyond GCSEs. This includes building intellectual curiosity, strengthening independent study habits, and encouraging students to challenge themselves academically. Peter also highlighted the personalised support available, from expert mentoring to help with applications, to opportunities that broaden students’ experiences and aspirations.

The visit provided our learners with a clear understanding of how the Excellence Programme can help them thrive in a demanding academic environment and prepare confidently for their next steps.
