Garstang Community Academy is committed to ensuring our students have access to high-quality external careers and skills opportunities. Over the recent half term break, one of our Year 11 students took advantage of a shared opportunity and attended a dedicated Young Professionals event, focusing on securing highly competitive apprenticeships.

The student described the experience as "valuable and insightful," providing a clear, real-world perspective on what it takes to succeed in securing a role with top organisations. The student noted that the experience immediately highlighted the huge amount of competition involved in winning apprenticeships at leading firms, and, crucially, the detailed processes these organisations use to recruit.

This vital insight went beyond the application form itself. The morning was structured to provide extensive guidance, interaction, and practical exercises on how to effectively showcase yourself to the best of your ability—from crafting a successful application through to mastering the interview process.

Furthermore, the event gave the students a rare opportunity to speak to employers directly for individual guidance, support, and advice. Networking with professionals is an essential part of career exploration, and this direct access provided invaluable, tailored feedback that can inform future academic and career decisions.

We are delighted that our Year 11 student found the event so beneficial in understanding the high standards and preparation required for future success. Experiences like this directly complement the work we do in school, particularly during our Future Friday careers timeslots, where we prepare students to confidently pursue these challenging and rewarding pathways.
