A group of our year 11 students recently took part in an electrifying event at B&FC as they transformed into "AIpprentices" for a fast-paced, future-focused day of innovation and entrepreneurship! This dynamic day immersed participants in the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence, challenging them to explore its impact on industries and tackle real-world problems.

Working in high-energy teams, our students embraced their roles as AI Entrepreneurs. Their mission? To conceptualise and design their very own AI-powered solutions to an industry-set challenge. The day was a vibrant mix of hands-on activities, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving, all aimed at understanding how AI is reshaping the landscape of business and technology.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the Dragons' Den-style showdown! Teams bravely stepped forward to pitch their "MEGA ideas" – their meticulously developed AI solutions – to a distinguished panel of business, education, and local representatives. There was high energy in the room as students showcased their creativity, technical understanding, and persuasive communication skills. A team from GCA won a competition for their innovative idea about the use of AI for meal preparation and fridge scanning.

Beyond the thrilling competition, the "AIpprentices" day served as an incredible platform for skill development. Students significantly boosted their enterprise capabilities, enhanced teamwork, and refined their communication skills throughout the various stages of the challenge. They also gained invaluable insights into the diverse and rapidly expanding career opportunities available in technology, business, and innovation.

"It was amazing to see how quickly students grasped complex AI concepts and applied them to practical problems," commented one of the event organisers. "The pitches were incredibly impressive, demonstrating a level of ingenuity and understanding that truly bodes well for the future."

This experience not only ignited a passion for AI and innovation in our students but also provided a tangible link between their education and future career pathways. We are incredibly proud of all our "AIpprentices" and their inspiring vision for an AI-powered future!

This super-curricular experience formed part of the Lancashire MEGA Hubs programme, delivered by IN4 Group in partnership with Lancashire County Council. Through this ground-breaking initiative, every secondary state school in the county will have access to cutting-edge opportunities in artificial intelligence, cyber, technology, and soft skills. The programme is designed to equip young people with the skills, experiences, and inspiration to thrive in the future world of work.
