2016/17 has been another fantastic year for sport at GCA - in fact it has been the most successful in the school’s history!

Here in the PE department we judge ourselves annually on 3 core outcomes:

  • Sporting success in competition.
  • Participation rates across our school cohort.
  • Academic results in GCSE PE.

This year we have competed in 243 fixtures involving 12 different sports across district, county and national competitions.  Our GCA teams have won 65% of all competitions entered. The Wyre and Fylde district comprises of Baines, St Aidans, Carr Hill, Fleetwood, Millfield, St Bedes, Lytham High, Cardinal Allen and Hodgson.

In our most recent survey the proportion of girls and boys who have represented the school in a competitive school fixture was 40%.  The national average is 18%. For us to more than double the national average is a significant achievement at a time when nationally it has become a challenge to engage young people in activity.

Our most recent GCSE PE results from 2016 were judged Outstanding with 89% (National Average 67%)  gaining A*-C with 48% making 4 levels of progress.

Congratulations to all our students who have achieved success this year.

Enjoy the summer - from all the GCA PE Team
