We were delighted to receive the news that Garstang Community Academy has been awarded the Sports Mark Gold accreditation in recognition of the PE Department’s continuing commitment to extra-curricular activities, interschool sport and intra school competitions. The award also reflects the commitment of our staff and students’ commitments to sports, volunteering & leadership.
Miss Rainbow, Head of Girls’ PE, says “This is a wonderful endorsement of the sporting achievements of our students across a full range of activities and all year groups. It also reflects the hard work and commitment of the PE staff, particularly in their support of extra-curricular sporting activities.”
Sports Mark Accreditation
Last year was the schools most successful for sport at Garstang Community Academy in recent times. That is success on two important fronts - performance and participation. Last year we won 13 District and County trophies and came runners up in 7 competitions. These achievements were across 9 different sports which is testament to the amount of competitions that the department enter and are prepared for. Alongside this we are proud to have had our most successful year regarding participation in representing the school in competitive sport. With 35% of all girls and 44% of boys across all year groups having the opportunity to play for a school team - this makes us immensely proud! Especially with the national average being at 14% for girls and 23% for boys respectively. All our sporting successes will be celebrated at our Annual Sports Awards Evening on Wednesday 5th October.
