The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
After studying it at sixth form, this is the book that made me want to do an English Literature degree - so it means a lot to me! I love how timeless the characters are, and I can't get enough of its levels of symbolism and carefully chosen language. It breaks my heart every time I read it, plus, like all good stories ought to be, it's set in 1920s Jazz Era New York.
